Holland
Jay Holland is a member of the firm's litigation and health care practice groups. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, including real estate and land use actions, title insurance claims, contract and insurance disputes, landlord-tenant matters, medical malpractice defense, and product liability cases. He also counsels clients on insurance and risk management matters, insurance regulations, and other operational and regulatory issues.
Prior to joining Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP, Mr. Holland worked seven years in the insurance industry as a claims consultant. He investigated and managed hundreds of property and casualty claims, including commercial general liability, premises liability, product liability, automobile liability, medical professional, real property, business interruption, inland marine, and fidelity losses. In 1998, Mr. Holland earned his Senior Claim Law Associate designation from the American Educational Institute.

- North Carolina Insurance Guaranty Association v. Board of Trustees of Guilford Technical Community College, 2007 WL 2362745 (N.C. App.), 648 S.E.2d 859, 222 Ed. Law Rep. 421 (holding as a matter of first impression that the Guaranty Association's statutory right to reimbursement and the College's purchase of workers' compensation insurance did not waive sovereign immunity of the College)
