Medical Staff Matters

We regularly counsel hospitals, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), nursing facilities, home health agencies, and other provider groups on medical staff credentialing, peer review, quality improvement, and medical staff governance issues.  Our attorneys have represented hospitals and physicians in credentialing disputes and peer review actions, including medical staff hearings and appeals.  We have represented providers in court cases alleging antitrust, breach of contract, and other claims.  We also have developed processes for hospitals to close medical staff departments under exclusive contractual arrangements, and developed plans for credentialing reviews.  Our health care attorneys also have prepared medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations, as well as risk management plans and policies designed to minimize claims against health care providers.  Our attorneys have prepared and negotiated hundreds of hospital-based physician agreements for hospitals and physicians, including the specialties of anesthesiology, radiology, pathology, and emergency medicine.
